Gillingham’s League Two rivals Southend United have become the latest club to show an interest in signing striker Gavin Tomlin.
The 29 year old Dagenham & Redbridge player has attracted a lot of interest since scoring six goals in nine starts for Gillingham in a loan spell since January.
However, it seems Tomlin’s future lies away from his parent club with Southend boss Paul Sturrock admitting he would be interested in signing the striker:
“Gavin is someone who has interested the club before and he’s certainly someone who is being spoken about again now,” a source close to the club told The Echo.
“He can play on the wing or up front and did well when he went on loan to Gillingham last season.
“During that spell he scored a great goal against Southend and really showed what he is capable of doing.
“Talks have taken place between Gavin and the club but they are only at a tentative stage.”
Tomlin stated just the other day that he would be inclined not to return to Gillingham following Andy Hessenthaler’s sacking as manager.
Meanwhile, Gills goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga has been linked with a move to Peterborough United.
